CHULILLA FIELD TRIPIt is located at about 60km northwest of Valencia. The river was full of vegetation at the sides, the width wasn,t to big it varied between 5 and 9 metres and the floodplain extended up to about 13 metres. It was the upper course from the river Turia. The river?s water velocity wasn?t too fast. A reason for choosing this site is because it is the upper course so we can see what happens at the upper course of a river. Hypotheses : 1.The depth of the river is bigger the more upper course you are, 2.The river widens as it goes, 3. The river?s velocity slows down as it goes
METHODOLOGY FOR CHANNEL WIDTH
We measured the channel width by measuring the distance between the edges of the river with a measuring tape. One student standed on each edge of the river, one placed the 0 cm mark at on edge and the other one read the measurement. The distance was recorded in metres. This was repeated for all 3 sites which involved systematic sampling.METHODOLOGY FOR BANKFULL WIDTH
We measured in metres the highest points on both sides of the river water had reached using a measuring tape. One student standed on each of the highest points, one placed the 0 cm mark at one of the highest points and the other one read the measurement on the other highest point. This was repeated for all 3 sites which involved systematic sampling.
METHODOLOGY FOR CHANNEL DEPTH
When we knew the channel width , we divided the total distance in 5 parts, each the same distance from each other . Then we measured each part with a one metre ruler, we had to ensure the ruler was touching the floor and then we recorded the water level.METHODOLOGY FOR RIVER VELOCITY
Firstly we measured with the measuring tape 10 metres along the river and we stuck a ranging pole at 0 metres and another one at 10 metres. Then someone let go a plastic bottle at the 0 metre ranging pole, when the bottle touched the water another person started the stop-watch and when the bottle reached the…
