We as a team have learned that “diversity can be a challenging topic for” some of us “to argue, because there is so much to it. It can be both beneficial and challenging; it varies in characteristics, understanding, effectiveness to others, and acceptability from place to place as well as being an extremely debatable subject due to the variety” of challenges and benefits involved.
Diversity helps us to understand our self & learn new things about our own racial, ethnic, or cultural history
Diversity in the United States is vast. There are so many different ethnicities, religions, cultures, and races. Talking about and seeing different perspectives have helped to broaden the minds of those that can be open minded. Not all people can be opening minded and have their views and opinions changed. Personally this whole class has impacted our views on diversity. We feel that now when meeting someone we can do our best to change our normal judgmental thought process and see the person for who they are and how they act rather than how they look.
Some of the team has not learned anything about our own culture or ethnic history. We are however very interested to learn where our ancestors came from. We would like to search our family history but that is not an easy task for us. Some of us can only search our Mother’s side because, although some of us know who our Father is, we do not know him and do not speak to him. Some of us have tried but he is not interested in knowing us.
